When you think of archery, you probably think of Robin Hood, The Hunger Games, and The Lord of the Rings, but archery is more than just a fad from the movies.

While movies have helped to popularize archery, what keeps people of all ages interested in the sport is actually its mixture of skill, individual competition, camaraderie and fun.

Reno residents can discover and cultivate their interest in archery at Wasting Arrows indoor archery range. Wasting Arrows is the only indoor archery range in Reno, and it offers a 20 yard space where customers can rent equipment, take lessons, practice and participate in contests.

Lystra and Deana Pitts, the owners of Wasting Arrows, are enthusiasts and entrepreneurs who sincerely care about making archery fun, safe and accessible to the Reno/Sparks community.

They decided to open Wasting Arrows to offer Northern Nevadans a comfortable place to learn and enjoy archery.

“We want [our customers’] first experience with archery to be fantastic!”, said Deana.

Customers like that Wasting Arrows provides a friendly, non-intimidating atmosphere for people of all ages and from all backgrounds. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to relieve stress, such as a boss who wants something different for the corporate retreat, a senior who wants to try something new, or a child who wants to live a movie fantasy.

Wasting Arrows offers fun holiday-themed events that are great for both new and experienced archers. On recent Tuesdays, Wasting Arrows has been offering a zombie shoot. As Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine’s Day approach, the targets will change from zombies to turkeys, and then to Christmas ornaments which will later be replaced with hearts.

At Wasting Arrows, you can bring your own equipment or rent theirs for  $10. Use the range for $15 an hour. Special rates are available for leagues, scout troops and students in archery classes such as the one offered by TMCC and the one that Lystra teaches for home-school students. Wasting Arrows’ Junior Olympic Archery Development program also offers kids an affordable introduction to the sport.

Visit Wasting Arrows at 8975 Double Diamond Parkway Ste A-8, or Lystra and Deana can bring their trap shooting machines to you as they frequently do for parties and special events, such as the occasional Renaissance wedding. As their motto says, “We aim for fun!”

Give them a try, and you will surely hit that mark.
