Sierra Arts Teacher WorkshopSIERRA ARTS NEWS

Sierra Arts will host two workshops for artists currently working in the schools and artists who would like to understand more about working as an artist in residence in schools and communities. The workshops will begin with “Laying the Foundation: Defining Arts Integration”, as an introduction to arts integration, on Saturday, October 5 from 9:30am – 12:30pm at Sierra Arts Foundation. Mary Bennett, longtime teaching artist and Producing Artist Director of Br üka Theatre, and Martha O’Neill, Programs Associate at Sierra Arts Foundation, will co-instruct.

In the workshop participants will consider a residency’s purpose, examine options for design, and select and organize residency components. They leave the seminar having begun their own residency plan which includes an arts-integrated topic, rationale, a residency description, expected results, responsibilities of the teachers, and an overview of each class or session. Through participation in a sample lesson, lively discussions, activities, and presentations, teaching artists improve their lessons to better facilitate student learning and teacher participation. Discussion will also focus and develop a clear understanding of what teachers want and need from the artist in their classroom and what the artist needs from the classroom.

For more information and to register for this free workshop contact Martha O’Neill at 775-329-2787 or [email protected].
