ARTE ITALIA NEWS RELEASE – In celebration of 2013: The Year of Italian Culture in the United States, arte italia is pleased to host UNESCO Italia, a photographic exhibition featuring Italy’s archaeological, artistic, and architectural treasures.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated and preserved 981 World Heritage sites for cultural, historical, and creative importance, and of those, 49 are located in Italy ~ more than any other single country in the world.
“Italy’s treasures come alive in these photographs!” said Kristen Avansino, President of arte italia. “Showcasing these iconic images reveals the wealth of beauty located in this small country.”
Beginning with the inclusion of the ancient rock drawings of Lombardia’s Valcamonica in 1979, UNESCO Italia represents a diverse cross-section of compelling photographs that capture Italy’s endangered sites in a modern and vibrant fashion. From the extraordinary landscape of the Dolomites to the celebrated monuments of Rome’s historic center, these works reveal centuries of environmental changes and expose an intimacy with Italy that can only be seen through the lenses of 14 notable Italian photographers.
The touring UNESCO exhibit has a unique representation in Reno. UNESCO sites and prior arte italia chefs are paired, giving special meaning to the regional uniqueness of Italy. A short film recounting movie scenes shot at various UNESCO locations throughout Italy is available for viewing, as well.
UNESCO Italia is on display from September 26 – November 24, 2013.
Founded in Reno, Nevada, and operated by the E. L. Wiegand Foundation, arte italia promotes the exploration and conservation of Italian culture through innovative exhibitions of classic Italian art and culinary programs featuring renowned Italian chefs. Located at 442 Flint Street, arte italia is open Thursday through Sunday, Noon- 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities in Rome, UNESCO Italia is presented in partnership with the Museo Italo Americano and the Italian Cultural Institute and Consulate General of San Francisco.
2013: The Year of Italian Culture in the United States is a year-long celebration promoting research, discovery, and innovation. Italy’s best achievements will be showcased to strengthen lasting partnerships, and create new ones between American and Italian institutions, universities, research centers, museums, schools, theaters, and businesses.
