RPD NEWS — On September 16, 2013 at approximately 10:59 PM, Reno Police Officers responded to a strong-armed robbery call that occurred in the parking lot of 305 Plumb Ln. The victim was attempting to purchase an iPhone from the suspect who posted an ad on Craigslist. Both agreed to meet in the parking lot and the suspect would not provide the phone to the victim to be examined before exchanging money. When the victim provided the money, the suspect handed an empty iPhone box to the victim and attempted to drive off. The victim jumped onto the vehicle and grabbed onto the driver side door as the suspect drove away. A struggle ensued over the money while the victim was holding on. The suspect battered the victim causing him to fall off of the vehicle and he sustained minor injuries. The victim was able to recover the money.

Officers responded to a similar call earlier in the night but there was no victim or suspect when officers arrived. The suspect and vehicle description matched in both incidents.

Officers of the Reno Police Department Crime Suppression Team investigated the incidents and identified the suspect as Hillary Eisenbarth.

On September 23, 2013, CST officers were able to make contact with Eisenbarth as she attempted to sell officers a table also posted on Craigslist. It appears that Eisenbarth intended to complete this transaction as she had the table in her vehicle. Eisenbarth was taken into custody without incident.

The Reno Police Department would like to remind citizens of possible dangers when dealing with unknown people to purchase or sell goods. Craigslist also lists the following suggestions:

When meeting someone for the first time, please remember to:

  • Insist on a public meeting place like a cafe
  • Do not meet in a secluded place, or invite strangers into your home
  • Be especially careful when buying/selling high value items
  • Tell a friend or family member where you’re going
  • Take your cell phone along if you have one
  • Consider having a friend accompany you
  • Trust your instincts
