Couple arrested in elder abuse, exploitation case

Date:

RPD NEWS RELEASE

Russell Henderson, 46, and his wife, Dalaiah Henderson-Johnson, 26, were arrested Monday on charges of Elder Abuse, Elder Exploitation and Theft related to the care of a 64-year-old male disabled victim and an 85-year-old female victim.

While driving a commercial taxicab designed for disabled persons, Henderson befriended each victim while providing cab service. Within the last couple of years, Henderson brought each victim into his home to live with him and his wife. The victims are not related to each other.

In August 2013, Reno Police became aware of the case after the male victim was admitted to the hospital with severe medical complications due to the lack of appropriate care. Since being in a proper care facility for the past six weeks, the victim’s health has dramatically improved.

During the investigation, detectives discovered that, in addition to not providing proper physical care, Henderson was accessing the both victim’s bank accounts and withdrawing large sums of money for his personal use.

Elder Protective Services is involved in this case.
