City of Reno to host annual wounded veterans sports camp

reno-logo-2551966-3105417The city of Reno Parks, Recreation and Community Services department, with the generous support of the Nevada Military Support Alliance, Wounded Warrior Project and Nevada Office of Veterans Services, and local adaptive sports programs, are hosting a military sports camp for disabled veterans and injured service members.

The camp is a multiday event with activities such as water skiing, archery, rock climbing, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball and more. Various area facilities such as the Sierra Springs Water Ski Lake, White’s Lake (dry lakebed) and the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center will host the activity programs. The camp will take place Wednesday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 15.

Events such as this take place at sites throughout the United States offering disabled veterans and injured service members the opportunity to integrate as participants and mentors in their local communities. The city of Reno Parks, Recreation and Community Services department, with support from sponsors, will provide transportation, lodging, adaptive equipment, meals and individualized instruction in adaptive/paralympic sports at no cost to the participants. Registration preference was given to Nevada service members.
