This initiative will include enforcement and outreach patrols at targeted intersections and crosswalks as the fall semester kicks off next week.

“It’s that time of year when students, faculty, staff and visitors are returning to campus,” University Police Commander Todd Renwick said. “It is important to remind motorists to stay alert, obey posted speed limits and use caution while traveling through adjacent roads or on the University.”

Police Services would also like to remind pedestrians, bicyclists and skateboarders to use caution, stay aware of your surroundings and obey laws related to crosswalks, bicycles and skateboards.

The joint traffic enforcement period will begin Monday at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m. Over the current fall semester, University Police will continue to conduct additional pedestrian- and crosswalk-enhanced enforcement and education targeting pedestrian and motor-vehicle laws as they pertain to crosswalks. Grant funds from the Office of Traffic Safety will help offset costs associated with these extra patrols and will be in addition to normal staffing.
