Tour TMWA’s water treatment, hydroelectric power plants

tmwalogo-2450024-3761615Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) invites customers and the public to tour and learn about two of its facilities this September.

Residents of the Truckee Meadows can learn about what it takes to get water from the river to your tap by touring TMWA’s Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant.  Expert TMWA staff will explain the water treatment and distribution processes, as well as answer your questions.

TMWA has just received an award from the Partnership for Safe Water for the Chalk Bluff Plant, ranking it in the top two percent of the highest performing water treatment plants in the country.  Sign up for any of the following tours:  Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. or Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m.

Every Wednesday in September, customers can also tour the Verdi Hydroelectric Power Generation Plant, which has been producing clean, renewable energy for over 100 years. The plant, which is located several miles upstream of Chalk Bluff, harnesses the natural flow of the Truckee River to generate more than 2.3 megawatts of power. Tours will take place at 2 p.m. on Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25.
