Nevada women’s basketball announces 2013-14 schedule

image001-5802924-3900243RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada women’s basketball team released its 2013-14 schedule today, sixth-year head coach Jane Albright announced Friday.

Nevada’s schedule will feature nine postseason teams from a year ago, including four that played in the NCAA Tournament. The Pack’s schedule also features 17 home games, including the annual John Ascuaga’s Nugget Classic.

“We are looking forward to the challenge of competing in our second season in the Mountain West,” Albright said. “Our staff and student-athletes have worked hard in the off season to prepare for the upcoming season. We feel like we have put together a strong schedule that will get us both mentally and physically ready for the Mountain West season.”

After an exhibition game at home against San Francisco State on Nov. 5, Nevada will open the 2013-14 regular season on the road at Utah Valley on Nov. 8. The Pack will return home for a pair of games, facing Long Beach on Nov. 15, followed by UC Irvine on Nov. 17.

Nevada hits the road for a match-up at Cal Poly on Nov.21, before returning to Lawlor Events Center to host Cal State East Bay on Nov. 25.

The Wolf Pack will open its annual John Ascuaga’s Nugget Classic at Lawlor Events Center on Nov. 29 against 2012-13 WAC champion Idaho. Pac-12 regular season champion Cal and ACC foe Wake Forest will play in game two of the holiday classic. The consolation and championship games will take place Saturday, Nov. 30. Nevada will play at 5:30 p.m., on day two, while the other game will take place at 8 p.m.

Nevada will remain home to play BYU on  Dec. 3, before hitting the road to face Utah on Dec. 7.  The Antelopes of Grand Canyon will make a stop in Reno to face the Wolf Pack on Dec.11.

The non-conference slate will conclude with a road game at UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 21.

Nevada opens up the Mountain West regular season at home Jan. 1 against conference newcomer San José State, before traveling to Laramie for a contest at Wyoming on Jan. 4. Points will be on the line in a Governor’s Series, presented by NV Energy contest with UNLV at home on Jan. 8. The team begins a two-game road trip on Jan.11, taking on Utah State, followed by Boise State on Jan. 15.

The Pack will battle 2012 MW champion Fresno State at home on Jan. 22, before hosting Wyoming on Jan. 25.  Nevada returns to the road for a pair of games, taking on Colorado State on Jan. 29 and Air Force on Feb. 1. The Wolf Pack and Aggies of Utah State will square off at Lawlor on Feb. 5, followed by a home contest with San Diego State on Feb 8. Nevada travels to Fresno State on Feb. 12, before facing New Mexico at home on Feb. 15.

The Wolf Pack and Spartans meet for a game in San Jose on Feb. 19, followed by a home match-up with Air Force on Feb. 22. Nevada travels to New Mexico on Mar. 1, before returning to Lawlor for the final home game on Mar. 4 against Boise State. The regular season will conclude on Mar. 7 with a road Governor’s Series game at UNLV.

The Mountain West Basketball Tournament will be held March 10-15 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.
