Help guide the future of Reno by becoming a Charter Committee member

reno-logo-5790297-5610064The Reno City Council is now accepting applications for members to serve on the Charter Committee.

Duties of the Charter Committee include reviewing the Reno City Charter in its entirety to identify any changes that would provide for a more modern, effective and efficient city government; meeting jointly with and providing recommendations to the City Council regarding amendments to the Charter; and holding meetings and public hearings.

The committee will consist of members appointed by each council member and the mayor, as well as members appointed by the legislative delegation representing the residents of the city of Reno.

This application process applies ONLY to appointments made by each council member and the mayor. Members appointed by council members and the mayor will serve during the term of the person by whom he or she is appointed. The committee will meet at least once every two years before the beginning of each regular session of the Legislature.

To be eligible to serve as a member of the Charter Committee, a person must be a registered voter in the city of Reno and must reside in the city of Reno during his or her term of office.

Applications are available online by visiting the Boards and Commissions link on the Government page of Reno.gov or in person at the City Clerk’s Office at 1 East First St., Reno. The deadline for applications is Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.
