CITY OF RENO NEWS RELEASE

reno-logo-117x150-4402617-1111561Beginning tomorrow, the City of Reno will be sending letters to more than 3,300 individuals who have delinquent parking tickets.

“We are making a final attempt to notify these individuals that they have outstanding citations since we have not received payments or payment arrangements have not been made,” advised Robert Chisel, city of Reno finance director. “By notifying individuals again, we are hoping to resolve these citations without taking further action.”

The 3,300 delinquent parking tickets represents $239,190 in money owed to the city of Reno. The delinquent citations date from August 2011 through April 2013 with each citation being more than 90 days overdue. The citations were issued for reasons such as parking in a designated handicap location, improper registration, parking in a red zone, parking in a residential parking zone without a permit and parking beyond the allotted time.

The outstanding citations are not directly related to the issues that were associated with the downtown parking kiosks; however, if there are outstanding citations that resulted because of an issue with the kiosks, the city of Reno is asking those individuals to immediately contact the City Clerk’s Office with proof of the issue so it can be resolved through the administrative appeals process.

Individuals receiving the letter have until Aug. 31 to submit payment. If payment is not received, the city will have the ability to take further action, such as referring the unpaid citation to a collection agency and/or filing a Notice of Nonpayment with the Department of Motor Vehicles, which may affect the ability to register your vehicle (NRS 484B.527).

Easy options have been designed to help individuals resolve their outstanding parking tickets:

• MAIL a copy of the letter received with  a personal check, money order or cashier’s check made payable to City of Reno to City of Reno, Attn: Parking, PO Box 1900, Reno, NV 89505
