Ardagh Metal Packaging USA Inc. and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) announced the opening of a new manufacturing plant located in Storey County at a press conference today at the Atlantis Casino Resort & Spa. The move will bring approximately 140 technical jobs to northern Nevada throughout the next five years, including 72 jobs within the first six months.
Ardagh Group is a global leader in glass and metal packaging solutions for most of the world’s leading food, beverage and consumer brands. The company has more than 100 facilities and 18,000 employees in 25 countries producing 32 billion containers a year. The company’s U.S. metal packaging operations are based in Carnegie, Pa. In addition to a recently announced expansion into Roanoke, Va., the company has facilities in Bloomsburg, Pa., Weirton, W.Va., Conklin, N.Y., Terminal Island, Calif., and now McCarran, Nev.
“We evaluated many sites for our Western region expansion. Storey County possessed a number of attractive factors such as their favorable business tax structure, cost of living, infrastructure, logistic advantages, proximity to our major customer and the availability of skilled labor,” said James Willich, CEO of Ardagh’s metal packaging business in the U.S.
Ardagh considered 37 buildings across two states before making the decision to move to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. Factors influencing their move included the community, labor pool, proximity to interstates, and most importantly the state and local governments’ demonstration of working with Ardagh through the permitting and application process.
Nev. Gov. Brian Sandoval, Storey County Commissioner Marshall McBride, EDAWN Vice-Chair Steve Anderson, joined EDAWN CEO Mike Kazmierski in welcoming Ardagh to northern Nevada at a press conference attended by the local residents, business owners and journalists. Partners who were involved in the relocation of Ardagh included Dave Simonsen with NAI Alliance, Jeff Lynch and Ken Tavner with ITS Logistics, John Parel and his team with Nevada Job Connect, Brad Woodring with NV Energy, Rhea Gustafson with Nevada Industry Excellence, Deb O’Gorman with Truckee Meadows Community College, Grant Simms, Dan Burhmann, Eric Bennet, and Gordon Zach with CBRE, Vince Griffith with Griffith Engineering, and Matt Rassmussen and Jeff Turnipseed with Tectonics.
