UPDATE: Accidental drowning in Truckee River claims two lives, victims identified

Updated News Release: The two victims who drown in the Truckee River yesterday have been identified as Wilfredo Avila-Sedano (17) of Reno, and Manuel Chavarin (24) of Reno.

Previous News Release: The 18 and 23 year old victims entered the Truckee River just west of the S. McCarran bridge. According to witness statements the victims entered an area of the river that is quit deep, the victims were unable to swim and disappeared under the water. The Sparks Fire department Police Department and Washoe County Search and Rescue responded, the pulled both victims from the river, they were transported to RENOWN where the were pronounced.
The names of the victims will be withheld pending notification of their families.
The Reno Police Department would like to remind the citizens of the Truckee Meadows to always wear an approved flotation device when entering the river. Never enter any body of water if your under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The flow and current of the Truckee river can be unpredictable, utilize a buddy system and avoid swimming alone.
