MINDEN — A Splash Dogs competition followed by a free Blues Monsters concert Aug. 11 at the Carson Valley Inn’s new outdoor Valley Sky Theatre will mark the resort’s 129th anniversary.

This will be the first concert in CVI’s Valley Sky Theatre, which seats more than 800 people and includes a raised stage area, beverage service areas and permanent restroom facilities.

Festivities will begin with the Splash Dogs competition. Splash Dogs is a company that organizes and promotes dock jumping events. The first competition round is at noon in the resort’s north parking lot. Additional rounds are at 2 and 4 p.m., with the finals at 6 p.m. Local dogs can be entered into the competition for $20.

The free Blues Monsters concert runs from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a break at 6 p.m. for the Splash Dog finals. The group — voted No. 1 blues band in north Lake Tahoe for seven years — plays a combination of R&B, funk, jazz and Chicago-style blues.

Inside CVI, free cake and champagne will be served from 2 to 3 p.m. and from 9 to 10 p.m., free birthday T-shirts will be distributed randomly throughout the day and INN Club members triple points from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There also will be drawings for up to $5,000 at 3, 4, 9 and 10 p.m.

Carson Valley Inn is on U.S. 395 in Minden, near the start of Nevada 88, 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe’s South Shore and 45 minutes south of Reno. The property includes a casino, sports and race book, 150-room hotel, 74-room motor lodge, 59-site RV park and a convenience store with Shell gas and diesel fuel. There also are banquet and meeting rooms and services plus three dining facilities: CV Steak, Katie’s and Job’s Perk.
