winners_girls-300x200-1649472-2025659SUBMITTED NEWS — David White and local partners, Eternal Board Shop, announce the winners from the 2nd annual “Making the Grade” Scholastic & Amateur Skate Contest held on June 22, 2013 at Mira Loma Skate Park.

During the event over 30 students from northern Nevada schools showed their skills at the park. Students were required to have at least a 2.8 GPA in order to compete and win the grand prize of a custom, hand-painted skate deck and a weeklong skate camp at Woodward Tahoe.

The contest encourages skateboarders from the ages of 7-18 years old in the northern Nevada school districts to brush up on their skateboarding skills, and dust off their schoolbooks during the year. The participant’s final grades, submitted before the competition, were factored into their final score. The higher the GPA, the higher the final score.

Each 1st place winner received a weeklong trip to Lake Tahoe’s Woodward Skate Camp. Judges included Steve “O” Brockway, from World Cup Skateboarding.

Lake Tahoe’s Woodward Skate Camp is a program in the Tahoe area that is dedicated to helping camp goers acquire new skills, balance and confidence in the sport, and their lives. Each winner will be placed in a program that caters to their age and ability level, giving campers the potential to improve their core skills within a week’s time.
