rto_logo-150x150-5887234-3001427The Reno-Tahoe Open has added two prestigious PGA Tour golfers to the 2013 event, with David Toms and Davis Love III officially committing to the event. Both Toms and Love III are PGA Championship winners, taking one of golf’s top prizes in 2001 and 1997 respectively.

“We are excited to add these world class players to our roster,” said Chris Hoff, executive director of the Reno-Tahoe Open. “Their legacies bring even more excitement to what is shaping up to be a deep and impressive field of golfers at this year’s Reno-Tahoe Open.”

In addition to the 2001 PGA Championship, Toms has won 12 other events on the PGA TOUR, including two consecutive wins of the FedEx St. Jude Classic in 2003 and 2004. He is currently ranked number one for Smash Factor and Launch Angle among 190 professional golfers.

Toms also owns a golf course design business in Louisiana, and the David Toms Foundation, which assists underprivileged, abused, and abandoned children. His foundations raised more than $1.5 million for Hurricane Katrina relief, which earned him the 2006 Golf Writers Association of America’s “Charlie Bennett Award.” Toms has not played at the Reno-Tahoe Open since 2000 when he tied for 7th.

Love III has won 20 events on the PGA TOUR, including the 1997 PGA Championship, the prominent Players Championship in 1992 and 2003, and the Children’s Miracle Network Classic in 2008. His 1997 win was the last major championship victory achieved with a wooden-headed driver. In 2012 he was named the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, a golfing competition between teams from Europe and the United States.

Love III has also developed and designed his own golf course in North Carolina, which won an award for “Best New Course” in 2001. He currently ranks 6th in career earnings on the PGA Tour.
