LYON COUNTY — Firefighters made great progress the last two days mopping-up and containing the Pedlar Fire. The firefighters achieved 100% containment of the 96 acre fire as of 4:00 p.m., July 1, 2013. Steep, rocky terrain and 100 degree plus temperatures have been challenging on this incident. Fire crews will continue throughout the day mopping-up any potential hot spots and patrolling the fire. Today’s activities will also include active removal of hose lines used on initial attack, restoration of control lines.
Highway 342 to Virginia City was reopened yesterday at 2:30 pm today. As a reminder, drivers having to travel on the roadways near the fire are asked to use extra caution as crews and apparatus are still actively working. Onlookers are asked to stay out of the area so fire crews can safely conduct operations and operations are not hindered.
