Fajardo named to Maxwell Award watch list

image001-3482260-1319468RENO, Nev. – Nevada junior quarterback Cody Fajardo was named on Monday to the initial watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given annually to college football’s player of the year, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.

Fajardo, a junior, is one of 76 players nationally on the watch list. He is one of just six players from the Mountain West on the list..

A second team All-Mountain West selection in 2012, Fajardo has accounted for 6,308 yards of total offense so far in two seasons at Nevada. Last year, Fajardo threw for 2,786 yards and 20 touchdowns with just nine interceptions while rushing for 1,121 yards and 12 more scores.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell and Award will be announced Oct. 29 and three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 25. The winners of the 2013 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12. The formal presentations of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted on March 7.

The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club’s selection committee, which analyzes both past performance and future potential. The Club reserves the right to make additions and deletions to these lists as the 2013 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, FBS head coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for the awards.
