The Elder Care Concert Series currently serves hundreds of seniors in ten facilities in the Reno area each month with a roster of over 30 local musicians. The population of elders in these types of facilities have little access to live music, as they do not always have the health and ability to attend concerts in public places. The Elder Care Concert Series began in 2002 as a project of Sierra Arts and Healing Healthcare Systems to ease some of the isolation experienced by the residents of these facilities and to present a forum for community among them.
“Sierra Arts wishes to express our gratitude to The Leonette Foundation for funding this important program,” says Stacey Spain, Sierra Arts Executive Director. “When seniors are listening to music they become more engaged, active, and joyful.”
