DAYTON — A big summer yard sale to raise funds for the busy nonprofit, Dayton Food Pantry, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 3 and August 4, 2013 from 8am-4pm at 4 Enterprise Way in Dayton. You’ll find bargains on hundreds of items: furniture, housewares, clothing, toys, books, and more. Pantry director Freida Carbery says, “Everything must go – make us an offer! Also, volunteers to help with the yard sale are always needed and welcomed. We start working to set up by 6am – come whenever you can.”

Emergency Food: Dayton Food Pantry is open for emergency food needs Monday through Thurs from 10am to 4pm at 4 Enterprise Way on Highway 50.

Regular Distribution Days: Normal distribution days (outside of emergency needs) are on the third Saturday of each month from noon to 3pm at Sutro Elementary School in Dayton at 190 Dayton Village Parkway. Special thanks goes to Sutro Elementary’s principal, custodians, and counselor and Lyon School District for their generous contribution of this comfortable space otu of the elements for hundreds served on distribution days.

How is the Pantry Funded? Hundreds of local volunteers help to make the Dayton Food Pantry run smoothly. The pantry keeps their shelves stocked with food purchased from Food Bank of Northern Nevada and USDA commodities, and with private donations and fundraisers organized by community volunteers. Every month the pantry provides emergency food for nearly hundreds of locals, prepares about a dozen homebound boxes for senior citizens, and packs dozens of weekend food backpacks for children in Dayton schools. The building space is generously donated by BCB Ventures, while Healthy Communities provides insurance, grant writing, management, required paperwork, and volunteer coordination.
