Celebrities, classic cars to fill streets during 27th annual Hot August Nights

625706_10151591978276948_100499931_n-300x111-6838183-3166807Hot August Nights is known for filling the streets of northern Nevada with a bevy of classic automotive beauties each August, but this year, the event will be star-studded and car enthusiasts everywhere will be on the lookout for some of their favorite celebrities.

Additionally, the event recently announced changes to its entertainment lineup which will wow the crowds in just two weeks during its annual weeklong celebration of classic cars and rock ‘n’roll. Scheduled to rock Reno and Sparks Aug. 6-11 is an incredible array of performers from some of the greatest decades in music, including Paul Revere and the Raiders, Tower of Power, The Righteous Brothers’ Bill Medley and the newly announced Jack Dempsey Band.

Hot August Nights kicks off in Lake Tahoe Aug. 2-3 and in Reno and Sparks Aug. 6-11.

“This year’s Hot August Nights not only features top entertainment acts but we are thrilled to welcome some of our dear friends and celebrities to celebrate with us,” said Tony Marini, executive director. “We work hard each year to make each event bigger, better and more exciting than the year before and we’re confident that this year will be no different.”

The 27th annual Hot August Nights welcomes back Alan Taylor of “The Drive” as this year’s grand marshal. Also cruising the streets of Reno will be Troy Trepanier of “Rad Rides.”

Fans can also expect to see the stars of the upcoming film “Snake and Mongoose” as the premier gets set to takeover Reno, in addition to Don “The Snake” Prudhomme himself.

And judging the highly-anticipated inaugural Barrett-Jackson Cup will be car legends Bob Millard, Bobby Alloway and Pete Chapouris.

The entertainment lineup will still wow crowds at the outdoor venues at Grand Sierra Resort and Victorian Square in Sparks. Joining Paul Revere and the Raiders, Tower of Power, The Righteous Brother’s Bill Medley and Jack Dempsey Band will be Lil’ Elmo & The Cosmos, who will play a wide variety of songs from across the generations including some of today’s most popular rock ‘n’ roll hits; 60s Summer of Love will bring the memorable sounds of everyone from the Beach Boys to The Beatles; Chicago Tribute Authority, the world’s top Chicago tribute band; Ronny & the Classics who will cover some of the greatest hits from yesteryear; Simply the Best – Tribute to Tina Turner who will rock the stage with the music of the great Tina Turner; and Sonny Turner, former lead singer of the Platters who will captivate his audience with some of the Platter’s greatest hits.

All performances are scheduled to take place at 8:15 p.m., unless otherwise noted, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 6, and will run through Saturday, Aug. 10. The following concert dates and times are subject to change:

o   Ronny & The Classics at Victorian Square

o   Chicago Tribute Authority at Grand Sierra Resort

·         Thursday, Aug. 8

o   Jack Dempsey Band with a special guest at Grand Sierra Resort (show begins at 6 p.m.)

o   Lil’ Elmo & The Cosmos at Victorian Square

o   Simply the Best – Tribute to Tina Turner at Grand Sierra Resort

·         Friday, Aug. 9

o   Sonny Turner former lead singer of the Platter’s at Victorian Square

o   The Righteous Brother’s Bill Medley at Grand Sierra Resort

·         Saturday, Aug. 10

o   Tower of Power at Victorian Square

o   Paul Revere & The Raiders at Grand Sierra Resort
