Both gathers were intended to address public safety issues and were not escalating or emergency situations. The Delamar gather is deferred until the fall, which is a more appropriate time of year when the wild horses are more active along the highway corridor and posing a safety issue. For the issues associated with the Silver King horses, the Ely District is working with the Nevada Department of Transportation to reduce the horses’ access to U.S. Highway 93 through placement of a right-of-way fence.
