WASHOE COUNTY REGIONAL PARKS NEWS RELEASE – Washoe County Regional Parks hosts several special events this week, starting with the first of this season’s free Wednesday evening concerts at Lazy 5 Regional Park in Spanish Springs. The first concert June 12 features Motown R&B with Escalade.
All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings at the Lazy 5 Regional Park at 7100 Pyramid Way. Patrons can enjoy a free hamburger or hot dog courtesy of the series’ sponsor, Summit Christian Church, and raffle prizes will be offered during every show. Washoe County will also host a celebration of the reopening of Bowers Mansion with a free tour this Friday. County Commission Chairman David Humke, Commissioner Marsha Berkbigler and other dignitaries will speak at 11:00 a.m. on Flag Day, June 14, to celebrate the renovation of the Mansion. Immediately following the celebration, there will be a free guided tour of the Mansion for both media and the public. The recently renovated historic Bowers Mansion in Washoe Valley is also open for tours Saturdays and Sundays through September 29. View costs and hours online.
The spring-fed swimming pool at the Park is also open for the first time since 2009. The William N. Pennington Foundation donated $150,000 to renovate the Bowers Pool, which is open seven days a week through August 18. Information on admission prices and hours is available online.
“Programs on the Porch” take place at 7:00 p.m., Friday evenings at the Mansion through June 28. Washoe County Park Ranger Jerry Buzzard hosts the programs, which include music and guest speakers and are free with donations accepted. This Friday, June 14, the featured speaker will be Richard Elloyan, a native Nevadan singer-songwriter who will perform original poetry and songs.
