cityofreno-189x300-1691954-7956084CITY OF RENO NEWS — Engaging the community with the goal of promoting student success, the Reno City Council approved a Collaborative Agreement between the City of Reno, Washoe County School District, Encounter Church, and the Community Service Agency to support the 360 Blueprint Program.

The 360 Blueprint Program is a collaboration between public schools, law enforcement agencies, community churches, volunteers, and families to transform the lives of the youth in the Washoe County School District through promotion of mentoring and positive role model interaction to emphasize the importance of school success.

“The 360 Blueprint Program is an opportunity for the Reno Police Department to collaborate with our partners and make an impact on one of our most cherished assets, children,” advises Reno Police Chief Steve Pitts. “We developed this program with the vision that it will mature into something that impacts all levels of K-12 education and demonstrates that the men and women of the Reno Police Department understand the importance of our role as mentors and leaders in the community.”

The 360 Blueprint Program was modeled after a successful program that originated in Dallas, Texas called “The Turn Around Agenda.” The core of the program is to promote healthy school and home environments to maximize student success, while also providing a myriad of services designed to bridge the gap between school, students, and parents. The mentoring program promotes academic excellence, life skills development, self-esteem, and personal growth. Volunteer mentors will come from local churches and the community. The program also assigns Reno Police Department officers to participating elementary schools to serve as role models.

“This collaboration is a dream come true for our community, to have our police community teaming up with people in our local community who care to create lasting success in our schools and community is a tremendous win for everyone,” advises Nathan DuPree, 360 Blueprint Executive Director.

The 360 Blueprint Program will roll-out in September 2013 for the upcoming school year.
