Annual poker run benefits Veterans Guest House – a “home away from home”

vgh-logo-300x81-3677719-7333192NORTHERN NEVADA VETERAN’S COALITION NEWS RELEASE – Northern Nevada Veteran’s Coalition’s third annual Poker Run, supporting the Veterans Guest House is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, and offers motorcycle enthusiasts a chance to win $3,000 in prizes with a first prize of $1,000. Registration is $30 per participants, $5 for passengers. Classic vehicles are also welcome to participate.

This year the Veterans Guest House Poker Run weekend will begin with a Kick Start Dance on Friday, June 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Silverado Casino in Fernley. With a live band, dancing, BBQ dinner and drinks.  The Kick Start Dance is a perfect way to start the weekend festivities, and is only $6. Funded in part by the Fernley Convention and Tourism Authority, discount motel prices are available for participants of the Poker Run.

On Saturday, June 22, registration for the poker run is from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The Veterans Guest House Poker Run features seven start locations and six check points throughout Dayton, Carson City, Reno, Fernley, Fallon, Silver Springs and Yerington. Drawing ticket locations include the Bucket of Blood Saloon in Virginia City, Veterans Cemetery in Fernley and the Veterans Guest House in Reno. The run ends at 2:00 p.m. and is followed by a celebration at the Silverado Casino in Fernley from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The parking lot of the Silverado Casino will be transformed into a block party with country rock classics performed by Ambush, vendors, military vehicles on display, a bike crawl, 50/50 raffle, drawings and award ceremony.

Proceeds from the Poker Run help support the Veterans Guest House, “A Home Away from Home,” which provides veterans and their family members with temporary accommodations while they are undergoing medical treatment in the Reno/Sparks area. The Veterans Guest House provides United States Military service veterans and their families temporary overnight accommodations while receiving treatment at a medical facility in the Reno/Sparks area. The majority of guests receive treatment at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC).  The VAMC covers 100,000 square miles from Bishop to Auburn, Elko and Ely.  The Veterans Guest House is located at 880 Locust Street in Reno, Nevada.
