Date:

ToddFeltsUNR NEWS — Todd Felts, assistant professor in the University of Nevada, Reno Reynolds School of Journalism and Center for Advanced Media Studies, was selected to be one of 17 participants in the sixth Scripps Howard Academic Leadership Academy sponsored by the Scripps Howard Foundation and the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University . The academy, held June 2 through 6, brings together academics and professionals within the mass communications and journalism fields to provide the opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards of leading an academic program.

Felts said, “As I have been afforded great chances to learn from strong leaders, the opportunity to network with people who share a passion for journalism and leadership could be the key stepping stone to take on greater responsibilities in higher education.”

The participants represent a diverse combination of institutions of higher education and the professional mass communication sector. During their time in the academy, mid-career academics and professionals will meet with seasoned administrators to learn about management, discuss the future of media education and consider issues critical to those interested in or new to leadership roles.

In regards to attending the academy, Felts said, “Now, 20 years after beginning a career in journalism and strategic communications, I am thrilled with the idea of working and further developing skills to improve higher education and journalism.”
