SPIRIT FILLED CHURCH NEWS RELEASE

On Sunday, June 2, Spirit Filled Church at 3175 Goldy Way in Sparks will host Pasco Manzo, a nationally known anti-human trafficking speaker and activist who heads the “Run For Freedom” organization dedicated to that cause. Manzo is also the author of the book “Broken Flowers: A Commentary on the Tragedy of Sex Slavery In America.”

He will first speak at Spirit Filled’s 10:30 a.m. service about how “Human Trafficking Breaks the Heart of God,” challenging the congregation to take action to stop the perpetrators and save the victims of the practice. Then at 6 p.m., Manzo will make a similar plea in a free presentation open to the Truckee Meadows community.

Human trafficking takes place all too often in the Silver State. This month, a Nevada man was arrested on suspicion of transporting numerous young girls from Las Vegas to the Washington, D.C. suburbs to sell them for sex. Closer to home, a former UNR professor was charged in 2011 with bringing a woman from the Bay Area to Reno for prostitution.

Authorities say the punishments for such trafficking are usually light and the profit margin is large. The practice has drawn the attention of Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and the state legislature.

About Run For Freedom
A branch of Dream Again Ministries based in Rhode Island, Run For Freedom raises awareness about human trafficking through speaking engagements and 5K run/walks (hence the name); educating the public about the role it plays in prevention, particularly via Internet usage; and helping victims through therapy, emotional healing and education. Run For Freedom promotes the color orange to represent sex trafficking awareness.
