WASHOE COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

library-logo-6148918-2613392The South Valleys Library had its grand opening 10 years ago, on May 14, 2003.  It was the first new library built in Washoe County in nearly 30 years.  With spectacular views and a striking yellow exterior, it has become a “destination library for everyone!

“It has been such a pleasure serving this community for the past 10 years,” says Managing Librarian Tamera Cirrincione. “We invite the community to join us in this milestone celebration which also gives us the opportunity to express our appreciation for the support we receive from our patrons every day.”

We invite the public to help us celebrate the past 10 years and start building new memories. Celebration goes on all throughout the month of May with a special Open House on Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Programs and activities that day include the following:

  • In Tune Tales at 11 a.m.—Folk tales brought to life through music.
  • The Colin Ross Duo at 2 p.m.—American Traditional, Swing, Blues, Celtic music and more.
  • Mingle with the Knitting Group, the SO Very Literary Book Group, Paws to Read, Bridge Group and the Lifescapes group and learn about how you can join in the fun they have every month from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Make a Book Wordle, add your favorite library memory to the Memory Board, check out the construction photos and slideshow from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Enjoy a piece of cake from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
