Yesterday detectives assigned to the Regional Street Enforcement Team (S.E.T.) conducted an undercover alcohol compliance check in the Reno/Washoe County area.
Based on the end of the school year festivities and with the summer break only weeks away, the focus of this operation was to target stores which sell alcohol and ensure alcohol is not being sold to minors.
Our intent is to increase the awareness of underage drinking. This operation was completed in conjunction with Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN) and the use of grant funds provided by E.U.D.L. (Enforcement of Underage Drinking Laws).
Detectives used underage decoys–an 18 year old, two 19 year olds and a 20 year old–to enter stores and attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages. When the underage decoys were asked for identification, they provided their actual state-issued identification, which identified them as underage.
In all, 60 stores were checked, and of those, clerks at the following locations passed the compliance check and did not sell alcohol to the underage decoy:
