NNMC NEWS RELEASE

NNMC logoThe Wound Care Center at Northern Nevada Medical Center is launching a free, monthly diabetes management, support and education group on the last Tuesday of every month. The first seminar will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Sparks Medical Office Building, 2385 E. Prater Way, Suite 201, on the NNMC campus.

Wound Care Center Medical Director Todd Inman, MD, and Keiko Case, NNMC dietician, will be speaking on proper nutrition and its role in prevention and management of diabetes.

More than 23 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, and a healthy, well-balanced diet is important to management of diabetes. Diabetics don’t have to necessarily give up all their favorite foods. The meeting will showcase smart food choices such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables and talk about other food choices that should be consumed in moderation.

Healthy snacks are included. Registration is required. Call 775-352-5353 to RSVP.

The NNMC Wound Care Center introduced the region’s first physician-supervised hyperbaric oxygen therapy in 2008, a technology that has a nearly 90 percent effectiveness in treatment of hypoxic wounds and necrotizing soft tissue infections. The Wound Care Center has been recognized with the Healogics Center of Distinction Award for Quality Patient Care and Center of Excellence Award for outstanding patient outcomes. For more information on the Wound Care Center, call 775-532-5353.
