Nevada Women’s Basketball adds Anna Cameron

image001-6725375-2052650RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada women’s basketball team has added junior college transfer Anna Cameron to its 2013-14 roster, head coach Jane Albright announced Thursday.

“Anna will add depth, skill, and athleticism to our squad next season,” Albright said. “She has excellent character and is a model student in the classroom. I believe she will be an immediate impact player for us at the guard/small forward positions.”

A native of Cambridge, New Zealand,  Cameron is a 5-11 guard/forward who spent the last two seasons at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, Calif., and will have two years of eligibility at Nevada. She led the Eagles to a 2013 Golden Valley Conference Championship as a sophomore, where she averaged 21 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and three steals per game.  Cameron is a two-time Golden Valley Conference Player of the Year, All-League Golden Valley Conference selection, and Contra Costa and Monterey Bay Tournament MVP.  She was also named Northern California Player of the Year following her sophomore season and holds the rebounds in a game record (22).

Cameron attended Cambridge High School, where she was named player of the year for three consecutive seasons, a program first. Her 64 percent field goal percentage is a Cambridge High School record. She played club for the Waikato U-19 women’s team for coach Anthony Corban and U-17 team under coach Steve Agnew.
