RED CROSS NORTHERN NEVADA CHAPTER NEWS RELEASE – On May 12, The American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter provided relief to multiple families impacted by two apartment fires, in Carson City and Hawthorne, a modular fire in Stead as well as occupants of three units displaced after a hotel fire in Reno. All fires occurred within a twenty-four hour time period.

Several Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers were deployed to assist the affected nine families. A total of twenty three clients were given the necessary emergency food, shelter and replacement clothing. Additional financial support was provided, as needed, to cover incidental expenses.

The Red Cross extends our appreciation to those associated with the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP), as they were also on the scene of the Reno hotel fire. TIP is a valued Red Cross partner and is currently offering their services to the family members of one of the hotel units. They are requiring additional support as the family is coping with the tragic loss of a dog that died the night before in unrelated accident.

The Reno Fire Department has confirmed a male resident of today’s hotel fire was flown to the Burn Unit at UC Davis in California with grave injuries. The Red Cross remains available to family members and associated victims of all these incidents.

The Red Cross works in cooperation with the fire department to provide immediate and follow-up support to anyone affected by a fire. Red Cross case workers will follow-up with all of the residents to determine if any additional assistance or resources will be required.
