Historic speakers at Mormon Station June 8

Mormon StationGENOA, Nev. – Mormon Station State Historic Park is kicking off its Historic Speaker Series with three Chautauqua presentations: Anita Watson will portray Mary Oxborrow, a pioneer midwife and healer; Laurie Hickey will give a presentation on the life of Dr. Eliza Cook, one of the first female doctors in Nevada and Bob Ellison will speak on about the life of Orson Hyde, responsible for “the curse of Carson Valley” and naming the town of Genoa. For an extra dose of history, visitors can check out the log cabin museum in between speakers.

WHEN: Saturday, June 8. The first speaker presents at 11 a.m., the second at 12:30 p.m. and the third at 2 p.m.
WHERE: All presentations are outdoors on the lawn where large trees will provide shade. Mormon Station State Historic Park is in Genoa and is a 20 minute drive from Carson City, via U.S Highway 395; 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe, via state Route 207 and Foothill Road and is one hour south of Reno via U.S. Highway 395.
WHO: This event is open to the public. No dogs are allowed.
COST: The presentations are free. Museum admission is $1 for adults; children 12 and under are free.
