WASHOE COUNTY SENIOR SERVICES NEWS RELEASE – The Washoe County Senior Services Department, the City of Reno, the City of Sparks, and the Incline Village General Improvement District have scheduled more than 100 events to celebrate Older Americans Month in May. This year’s theme is “Unleash the Power of Age.”
Washoe County Senior Services celebrates with opening ceremonies this Wednesday and will feature appearances from elected officials, including U.S. Senator Dean Heller, representatives from U.S. Senator Harry Reid’s office, Reno Mayor Bob Cashell, Sparks Mayor Gino Martini, Washoe County Manager Katy Simon, other community leaders and musical performers. Local broadcaster Bob Carroll will emcee the event and lunch will be free for seniors over 60. In addition, more than 30 community agencies that provide services to seniors will be present to share information with those who attend.
The ceremony takes place at Washoe County Senior Services, Ninth Street and Sutro Street, in Reno, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 and the celebration continues throughout the month with more than 100 events scheduled. Media availability for interviews will be Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
