St. Vincent’s dining room manager honored with “Mother Theresa Award”

Date:

CATHOLIC CHARITIES NEWS — A group of volunteers with the St. Vincent’s Dining Room have decided to recognize a man who they call a “true humanitarian.” In his 22 years as manager of St. Vincent’s Dining Room, Ray Trevino has helped to feed millions of hungry men, women and children. Many of his daily clients rely on him for the only hot meal they eat in a given day. “I’ve always wanted to help by giving more to people who have less. I have dedicated my life to providing people with substance and food,” says Ray.

Mayor Bob Cashell will present Ray with the “Mother Theresa Award” at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27th in the St. Vincent’s Dining Room at 325 Valley Road. The award is a symbol of Ray Trevino’s commitment to following the famous words of Mother Theresa: “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.” Judge Chuck McGee, who regularly volunteers in the Dining Room, says no one is more deserving of recognition than Ray. “Ray isn’t trying to change anybody or tell them how to live their lives. He’s just providing people with a place that is warm and safe and with a hot meal to eat,” says Judge McGee.

The wooden plaque includes a picture of Mother Theresa, as well as a large “X” in the center, which represents a memory from Ray’s childhood in Southern Texas. “I always used to say that my mother must have had an “X” above her doorway, because even when our refrigerator was empty, she always found a way to offer people something to eat. Our house was a friendly place, and that’s what I’ve always offered at St. Vincent’s,” says Ray.

Please arrive at the St. Vincent’s Dining Room at least ten minutes prior to the 10:30 award presentation ceremony. For more information, call Auburn Harrison at (775)322-7073 ext. 235.
