NMSA NEWS RELEASE

NMSA logoThree Reno Police Officers, all former U.S. Marines, attended the Marine Memorial thanks to a sponsorship from the Nevada Military Support Alliance. The memorial, remembering the seven Marines killed in Hawthorne when a mortar shell exploded during a training exercise, was held at Camp Lejeune, N.C., on April 23.

“Once a United States Marine, always a Marine,” said Scott Bensing, president of the Nevada Military Support Alliance. “The Marine Corps and the city of Reno should be enormously proud of these officers for their service during the explosion and for the manner in which they honor these brave Marines and their families. The Nevada Military Support Alliance is proud of them and we are happy we could assist them in attending the ceremony at Camp Lejeune.”

Reno Police Officers Lieutenant Tim Donohoe, Sergeant Brian Adamson and Sergeant Dan Thompson will be attending the memorial. Thompson and Donohoe were on shift the night of the accident and coordinated the department’s assistance. Adamson became the liaison between the RPD and the Marines while they conducted the investigation.

“I know I can speak for the other two when I say that we are honored that we have been asked to attend,” said Lieutenant Tim Donohoe. “Thank you very much for your support. We will not only be representing our department, but the Nevada Military Support Alliance and the entire city.”
