HUSSONG CANTINA NEWS RELEASE — The oldest cantina in Mexico and famous Ensenada landmark, Hussong’s Cantina, has brought its approachable menu and buoyant Baja atmosphere to Reno. Proven popular with tourist and locals at its first U.S. outpost at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Reno will be home to Hussong’s Cantina’s next location. Whether it’s the authentic Baja cuisine, the chance to experience the deceptively strong Original Margarita, or sing-along to the rock n’ roll Mariachi band, Hussong’s Cantina appeals to every kind of crowd.
“Reno is the perfect locale for this iconic bar,” said Scott Frost, President of Titan Brands, the developer behind the venue, which is set to open April 26. “The people that are familiar with the original Hussong’s will not be disappointed, and the masses that have yet to experience it will quickly become fans of our Baja Mexican food and daily party.”
The 2,200 square foot Reno restaurant will occupy the former Fairchild’s Oyster Bar space and savors all of the charms of the Ensenada location. The cantina is a replica of the original, featuring the trademark rustic green and red finishes. As diners are escorted to their table, they can peruse a variety of artifacts that pay homage to Ensenada. The eclectic décor includes original Mexican photographs dating back to the late 1800s, and memorabilia from both the original Hussong’s and founder Johann Hussong.
The food at Hussong’s Cantina introduces Reno area locals and visitors to Baja’s best. Executive Chef Noe Alcala has created an affordable and tasty menu featuring classic Mexican-American dishes as well as authentic Baja street fare. Signature dishes include the Plazero Grilled Corn, grilled white corn brushed with mayo-butter, covered with cotija cheese and chili flakes, sure to become a Reno favorite, and Ceviche Baja Style featuring shrimp marinated in lime and jalapeño served in a Baja mix of cucumber, red onions, tomatoes and cilantro. Enchiladas Plazeras, chile pasilla corn tortillas rolled with queso fresco and a pile of chorizo, potatoes, carrots, pulled chicken and sour cream are another favorite. The signature Tacos allow guests choose from ribeye, fish, chicken, steak, carnitas, or shrimp selections and are all served in Hussong’s signature street style.
The Baja watering hole is the originator of the now-famous cocktail and Hussong’s Cantina in Reno doesn’t disappoint with its Original Margarita featuring a strong pour of 100 percent blue agave tequila with fresh squeezed lime and agave nectar. The Bulldog combines the best of both worlds with tequila, fresh lime, agave nectar, grapefruit soda and triple sec served in a 48 ounce glass topped with a seven ounce bottle of Pacifico beer. Bucking the usual draft beer offerings, Hussong’s Cantina will feature Mexican beers Pacifico and Negro Modelo on tap. Those watching their waistlines can sip the 140 calories Skinny Margarita in pomegranate, mango, traditional or sugar free options.
Hussong’s Cantina is open from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. seven days a week. For information or a group reservation please call 702-463-0511, or visit www.hussongsreno.com. Follow Hussong’s Cantina on twitter @hussongsreno or “like” on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/hussongsreno?fref=ts.
