CITY OF RENO NEWS RELEASE

reno-logo-7260137-7867181Today the Reno City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting. Below are some highlights from the meeting.

• Proclamation declaring Fridays as Wolf Pack Fridays
Showing that the City of Reno is truly a university town, Mayor Cashell proclaims all the remaining Fridays of 2013 as Wolf Pack Fridays. The proclamation encourages all citizens and employees of the City of Reno to support the efforts of the University of Nevada, Reno for what it brings to our community by wearing University of Nevada, Reno clothing on Fridays (where allowed). The University of Nevada, Reno is one of that nation’s top public universities; striving to be small enough to allow students to connect with people and professors who can put students on the path to success.

• Agenda Items H.1
The City Council approved a resolution donating $2,400 in Community Pride Grant Funds from Ward Three Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB) to the Local Food Network for Lost City Farm. The funds will be used to purchase supplies in order to create and maintain a neighborhood garden at the corner of Center and Moran Streets. The fresh produce will be available for sale to all Reno residents through an on-site farm stand. A native/edible perennial garden will also be on site. These improvements will provide a green space and positive activities on this vacant site.

Each NAB’s CPG funds are designed to be used for neighborhood-specific projects. These funds are allocated to projects that the City may not have budgeted for that the NAB would like to expedite. Funds are generally intended for projects that are short term in nature and quick to implement. While funding is recommended by the boards, its use and expenditure are guided by established city procurement, expenditure procedures, and ground rules.

• Agenda Items H.2
The City Council approved a resolution donating $6,900 in Community Pride Grant Funds from Wards One ($3,000), Ward Two Central ($1,500), and Ward Three ($2,400) Neighborhood Advisory Boards (NAB) to Solace Tree. The funds will be used to provide peer support programs, educational opportunities, program supplies, and grief workshops for children, teens, and families who have lost a loved one. The Solace Tree provides many opportunities for all participants to share and express their loss in healthy, positive ways.
