RENO, Nev. – The Nevada football team will play at least one time on ESPN this season as the Wolf Pack’s game at San Diego State on Oct. 4 will be televised nationally at 6 p.m. by the network, the Mountain West announced Tuesday. The announcement was the first in a series of television releases by the league with television info and kickoff times for other games to be announced in the coming weeks.
While kickoff times for most Pack games will be determined by television broadcast, Nevada is asking for guidance from its fans in determining the start time for the Mackay Stadium opener against UC Davis on Sept. 7. The game against the Aggies will be the first home game for new head coach Brian Polian and fans can vote on their preferred kickoff time for the game.
“We want to hear from Wolf Pack fans what works for them because we want a packed house,” Nevada athletics director Doug Knuth said.
Fans can vote online at NevadaWolfPack.com (http://www.nevadawolfpack.com/sports/m-footbl/schedule-survey.html) from now through May 1. The Nevada-UC Davis game renews an old rivalry as the teams have met 52 times in the series, which began in 1915. Nevada leads the 29-21-3 in the series and this will be the first matchup between the teams since 1989.
Today’s Mountain West announcement, which was made up of six Friday night games and one Thursday game across three networks of the ESPN family, is the first under a new agreement with ESPN as the second MW national television rights holder for Conference-controlled football games. CBS Sports Network remains the primary rights holder for the Mountain West.
Between the two networks, up to 44 football games will be televised this year on their various platforms. Broadcast details for the Mountain West package on CBS Sports Network, as well as additional telecasts on the ESPN networks, will be announced at a later date.
