BOB LARKIN NEWS RELEASE
Washoe County Commissioner Bonnie Weber and former Commissioner Bob Larkin announced yesterday that they are once again sponsoring the National Day of Prayer gathering at the Washoe County Government Complex this Thursday, May 2, from noon to 1 p.m. The Washoe County Government Complex is located at 1001 E. 9th St., Reno.
“This marks the 8th consecutive observance that the commissioners have sponsored,” noted Weber.
“We invite everyone from the community to visit the County Complex and pray for our nation, military and those that serve our community,” stated Bob Larkin, former chairman of the commission. He added that no taxpayer funds are involved nor used for this community-wide event.
The event is entirely at the expense of Weber and Larkin as well as the host entity. This year’s host is Excel Christian School and Vice-Principal Kristopher Dahir, who stated, “We encourage and invite everyone to this event to pray.”

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
