Community comes together to speak out against domestic violence

logoWASHOE COUNTY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TASK FORCE NEWS RELEASE – The Washoe County Domestic Violence Task Force, local government branches, law enforcement agencies, private businesses, and community agencies are joining together to speak out against domestic violence during with Safe and Healthy Homes 5K Run/Walk & Fair on Saturday, April 20.

This is the twelfth year for the Safe and Healthy Homes Fair and sixth year for the 5K Run/Walk. The race will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the California Building at Idlewild Park, and the Fair will be from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Race registration will remain open until April 19. Visit www.onestoprace.com for more information and register. Same day registration is available until 8:30 a.m., on April 20. Packet pickup for those who have already registered is at Eclipse Pizza, 3950 Mayberry Drive, on April 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eclipse Pizza is also offering a 20% discount to all runners on April 19 and 20. Runners need to show their race bib to receive the discount.

This will be a day of fun to promote awareness and gain information regarding domestic violence and available community resources. In addition to information booths, displays, and demonstrations by local public safety agencies, food, drinks, live music, clowns, face painting, a bounce house, and a child ID booth will also be available. Admission to the fair is free. All the proceeds from the Walk/Run will go to Safe Embrace to help victims and their families recover from domestic violence.
