Carson Valley Inn serves up May dining specials

MINDEN – The Carson Valley Inn offers Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day specials at its restaurants CV Steak and Katie’s; breakfast, lunch and dinner specials are offered throughout the month May at the aforementioned restaurants and at Job’s Perk.

CV Steak is open for dinner on Mother’s Day from 4:30 p.m. In addition to its regular menu, CV Steak is offering two Mother’s Day dinner specials: Medallions of Alaskan halibut with asparagus, crab and Béarnaise sauce for $30 and smoked Midwestern prime rib of beef, au jus with apple horseradish sauce for $25. Both specials are served with a choice of au gratin, baked or double-stuffed baked potato plus a seasonal fresh vegetable and house salad tossed table side.

CV Steak is open from 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday through Sunday and features a selection of appetizers, a bountiful wine list and an assortment of entrées including steaks, chops, seafood, chicken and pasta dishes. A special sunset menu is available from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. with a choice of four or five entrées each day for $18, including salad tossed table side and dessert. Reservations are recommended. Katie’s, the Inn’s 24-hour restaurant, will offer two specials on May 5 as part of its Cinco de Mayo celebration: a beef burrito or chicken enchilada for $3.99.

On Mother’s Day, May 12, Katie’s will offer two specials in addition to its regular menu. The specials, $10.99 each and offered from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., are pan-seared fillet of sole with herbed rice pilaf and seasonal vegetables, and grilled chicken breast with asparagus, bay shrimp, Béarnaise sauce, rice trio and seasonal vegetables. Both specials include a choice of soup or salad and Katie’s dinner bread.

Katie’s regularly serves up a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner choices enhanced by an array of appetizers and house-made desserts. The restaurant is continuing its $4.99 eggs Benedict special from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays in May. This traditional favorite includes a toasted English muffin, grilled Canadian bacon, two poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce and hash browns.

The restaurant’s 24-hour signature special is a $5.99 hamsteak and eggs plate. There also is a $4.99 loaded pancakes special in the mornings until 11 a.m. Katie’s has two house-made soups each day and there is a daily soup and half sandwich special from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $4.99.

Katie’s also offers nightly dinner specials from 2 to 10 p.m. On Mondays, it’s a Mexicali plate with tortillas, refried beans, Spanish rice and salsa for $5.99; Tuesdays it’s a choice of chicken fettuccini Alfredo or chicken Parmigiana with pasta and marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and broccoli for $5.99.  The Wednesday special is boneless pork chops with pan gravy, mashed potatoes and vegetable for $5.99, and every Thursday in May, Katie’s serves roast turkey breast with mashed potatoes, giblet gravy and stuffing for $6.99. Add soup or salad to any of the specials offered Monday through Thursday for $1.

Katie’s serves a prime rib dinner Friday and Saturday nights in May for $9.99. Included are a half-pound of slow-roasted prime rib of beef, au jus; twice-baked potato; creamed horseradish sauce; and a choice of soup or salad. This special also is available in a ¾-pound cut for $12.99 and a full-pound cut for $15.99.

The $5.99 Chandler Southern fried chicken dinner continues its long run on Sundays and includes mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw and a biscuit.

Fresh-baked cakes, pies, cupcakes, brownies and cookies are made daily in the Carson Valley Inn Bakery and are available at the display case near the Katie’s cashier counter. As a special bonus for INN Club members during May, all Katie’s baked goods are half-off on Mondays when purchased with INN Club points. Points are earned whenever guests use their INN Club cards while playing slots, table games or live poker.

Job’s Perk opens daily at 6 a.m. and offers coffee, pastries, sandwiches, salads and chili and clam chowder bowls. Afternoon/evening fresh-baked cookies are available and there is an assortment of bottled wine, champagne and canned beers. Job’s Perk also sells newspapers, sundries and CVI-logo items.

INN Club members can use PointPay to redeem earned points towards their restaurant checks at the Carson Valley Inn. Guests simply swipe their cards in Katie’s or Job’s Perk, or present their cards to their servers in CV Steak.

The Carson Valley Inn is on U.S. 395 in Minden, near the start of state Route 88, 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe’s south shore and 45 minutes south of Reno. The property includes a casino, sports and race book, 150-room hotel, 74-room motor lodge, 59-site RV park and a convenience store with Shell gas and diesel fuel. There also are banquet and meeting rooms and services plus three dining facilities: CV Steak, the Inn’s Nevada-style steakhouse featuring steaks, seafood, pasta dishes and more; Katie’s, for 24-hour dining choices; and Job’s Perk for coffee drinks, pastries and sundries.
