A new report that evaluates the current condition, use and funding of Nevada’s surface transportation system will be released at a news conference in Carson City Thursday, April 4. The report is being released by TRIP, a national nonprofit transportation research group based in Washington, DC.
According to the new report, “Nevada Transportation by the Numbers: Meeting the State’s Need for Safe and Efficient Mobility,” deficient roads cost the average Reno/Carson City area driver nearly $1,700 each year in the form of additional vehicle operating costs, lost time and wasted fuel due to traffic congestion, and traffic crashes.
TRIP’s report provides key facts and figures regarding road and bridge conditions, economic development, highway safety and transportation funding in Nevada.
At 1 p.m. on Thursday, the Senate Committee on Revenue and Economic Development will hear testimony from TRIP as well as local highway and roads stakeholders on SB 377. This bill increases gasoline taxes and other specialty fuels by 2-cents/gallon to secure revenue for highway infrastructure projects.
