The open forum is accessible through the Washoe County website at www.washoecounty.us/openwashoe and also by texting the word ‘subscribe’ to (775) 835-4540. Individuals can make comments, suggestions and read what other community members are saying about a particular issue.

On April 9, 2013, the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) will consider a request by SK Baseball (SKB) that Washoe County help keep Reno Aces baseball in the community by providing assistance in restructuring the long-term debt for the construction of the Reno Aces’ baseball stadium.

In January, the City of Reno approved a new agreement that would provide $30 million over 30 years to replace an original commitment based on property tax revenues that did not meet expectations due to the economic downturn. SKB’s request is that the County assist in completing the restructuring of the debt by providing up to $500,000 a year for 30 years.

“Aces baseball provides a family entertainment venue that creates an annual economic impact of $21 million,” said Assistant County Manager John Berkich. “While the County has no legal obligation to participate, SKB is asking for the County’s support, which would be combined with the City of Reno’s funding and additional funding from SKB.”

Open Washoe County asks the question: In general, to what extent do you agree or disagree that Washoe County government should provide financial assistance to help keep Reno Aces baseball in our community?
