A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE WITH WORLD-RENOWNED AUTHOR DR. ROBERT KRELL TO BE HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, RENO, APRIL 7
Event hosted by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the University’s Interfaith Students Club will honor lives lost or altered by the Holocaust and by genocides worldwide
RENO, Nev., March 21, 2013 — The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Nevada, Reno in partnership with the University’s Interfaith Students Club will present a Day of Remembrance, Sunday, April 7 on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The event will feature renowned speaker, author and child survivor of the Holocaust, Robert Krell, M.D., who was the keynote speaker at the 2012 United Nations International Day of Commemoration in memory of Holocaust victims.

When:     Sunday, April 7, 3-4:30 p.m.
Where:   Joe Crowley Student Union Ballrooms, University of Nevada, Reno campus
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is free on the University campus on Sundays.

“The University’s OLLI board of directors coordinated this wonderful event with the assistance of the University’s Interfaith Students Club. And as the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s upcoming National Days of Remembrance statement suggests, when we remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and other genocides around the world, we reflect on how we might respond to warning signs of genocide today,” said Shera Alberti-Annunzio, the University’s OLLI liaison and director of management and executive programs for Extended Studies. “Our choices in response to hatred truly can change lives, while fulfilling the promise of ‘never again’.”

Author and speaker Dr. Robert Krell was born in the Netherlands and survived the Holocaust in hiding. He obtained his medical degree from the University of British Columbia, and completed his psychiatric training at Temple University Hospital and Stanford University Medical Center. In his psychiatric practice, he treated Holocaust survivors and their families and has established numerous education programs and support groups in service to survivors. He founded the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre and in 1998 received the State of Israel Bonds Elie Wiesel Remembrance Award. In 2011, Boston University awarded Dr. Krell the Hillel Lifetime Achievement Award. He has authored numerous books and book chapters and more than 50 journal articles. His interests remain in the psychiatric treatment of aging survivors of massive trauma and in participating in programs against racism and prejudice.
