NORTHERN NEVADA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS NEWS RELEASE Â –Â On Friday, April 5, the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada (PFFN) will launch the annual “Fire Hurts – Red Cross Helps” campaign to raise $250,000 in order to fund emergency assistance to local families who have lost their home to fire. The money raised for this campaign stays in Northern Nevada.
“We are thrilled that the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada are partnering with us in assuring that local families are afforded the help they so desperately need when a disaster occurs. The Red Cross and fire fighters work side by side comforting those affected and offering them the first steps to recovery,” said Clara Andriola – CEO of the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada.
“As professional fire fighters, we respond to fires as they are happening,” says Bryon Hunt with the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada. “The Red Cross comes after the fire is out. The Fire Hurts campaign is a natural partnership with the American Red Cross as we work together to meet the immediate needs of local victims of fires.”
On the average, the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross responds to a residential fire every 48 hours, day and night. Volunteers are on call to respond to a home fire 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Though this disaster assistance is provided by our volunteers, the price tag for the financial help they offer to victims – emergency food, shelter and clothing – is significant.
The Red Cross helps anyone in need, with no strings attached. This emergency financial aid supports families for the first few days, while trained American Red Cross volunteers personally manage each case to help people get back on their feet. All assistance provided by the Red Cross is an outright gift, made possible entirely by contributions from the caring citizens of Northern Nevada.
