Reno Police investigate 2 armed robberies at local businesses

At about 8:30 a.m. today, officers responded to a report that an armed robbery had just occurred at Interstate Insurance, 919 So. Wells Ave., Reno. The suspect entered the business and pointed a handgun at the lone employee as he opened for the day. The suspect demanded money from the business.  When the employee stated he did not have any money, the suspect struck the employee and demanded money a second time. The suspect obtained a monetary loss and fled out the front door of the business.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult, 20s, 5’8”, thin build, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

Later this same day, at about 9:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at Hi Point Liquor, 900 Yori Ave., Reno. The lone employee reported that two men entered his business. Suspect 1 pointed a handgun at the victim while suspect 2 removed money from the cash registers.  The suspects fled the business and were observed leaving the area in a small red sport utility vehicle.

Suspect 1 was described as a black male adult, 5’9”-6’0, medium build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and darker colored pants. Suspect 2 was described as an unknown race adult male, 5’6”-5’8,” medium build, last seen wearing gray and blue hooded sweatshirt, ball cap and blue jeans.

Police are investigating possible a link between these cases but have not confirmed if there is one or not at this time.
