Decker appointed deputy commissioner of consumer services at Nevada Division of Insurance

CARSON CITY – Insurance Commissioner Scott J. Kipper announced today that Joseph R. Decker has been named deputy commissioner of insurance at the Nevada Division of Insurance. Decker, who will start on Feb. 18, will be based in the Division’s Las Vegas office and will manage the Consumer Services Section.

Decker has two decades of loss prevention, risk control and fraud investigation experience. Most recently, he served as a senior vice president and regional manager of global corporate security for Bank of America, where he managed the bank’s protective services division in a multi-state area. Prior to that he was a risk control and loss prevention manager at Citibank N.A.. He also managed State Farm General Insurance Company’s special investigation unit for nearly a decade and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve.

“I am pleased that Mr. Decker will be joining the Division of Insurance to head our Consumer Services Section,” said Kipper. “His extensive experience in protective services and fraud investigation will be a great asset to the people of Nevada as he leads the Division’s efforts to protect the rights of consumers in their interactions with the insurance industry.”

The Consumer Services Section of the Division handles all requests for insurance assistance from the public. They strive to help consumers understand their policy and answer any questions they might have regarding insurance. Consumers can also file formal complaints against insurance companies and agents, and Consumer Services will act as a liaison to resolve the problem. The section recovered $4 million on behalf of Nevadans in 2012.
