Date:

asunlogo-1-300x77-6205452-7357950The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) in conjunction with the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Office of Service Learning and Civic Engagement will host “Leadership Through Action: Serving Your Campus and Local Community” on Sunday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theater.

The event is free and open to University Students and community members. Early registration is requested.
The conference will include a special keynote address from Leadership Development Speaker Rochelle Whellams. Whellams has inspired hundreds of adults across the western United States for more than 10 years, emphasizing the importance of being aware of oneself, choosing a deliberate course of action and having a “GET TO” (Giving Everything To The Opportunity) attitude.
The conference will also provide attendees with numerous activities focused on service and servant leadership theory. During “Non-Profit Speed Dating,” 8 to 10 local organizations will give short presentations about their role in the community and ways students can help their cause. Some of the non-profit organizations attending include Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, Urban Roots and Red Cross.
Other conference events include a second keynote by Matthew Johnson, the state program specialist for Corporation for National and Community Service, a student panel focused on service and a servant leadership workshop hosted by Dr. Marlene Rebori, director of the UNR Office of Service Learning and Civic Engagement.
Students and community members will also get participate in a hands-on community service activity during the conference. After learning about servant leadership skills, they will sew pediatric trauma patient dolls for hospitalized children in the Truckee Meadows community.
Free lunch and a raffle will be held during the event. Interested individuals can register for the conference at https://asun.wufoo.com/forms/leadership-through-action-conference/.
