CARSON CITY — The Bureau of Land Management Carson City District, in coordination with the Western Nevada Agency of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Nevada Department of Wildlife, and Nevada Division of Forestry are scheduled to begin aerial seeding on Jan. 14, in portions of the Topaz Ranch Estate (TRE), Spring, Preacher, and Como fire areas in the Pine Nut Mountains, and the Gilbert Fire in the Clan Alpine Range. The seeding is scheduled to be complete by Feb. 2.

The seed mixes are a combination of perennial grasses, forbs, and shrubs chosen to establish quickly, prevent cheatgrass dominance, reduce soil erosion, and enhance sage grouse habitat.

Persons wishing to recreate in the affected areas should be aware that there will be low flying aircraft operating in the burned areas during this timeframe.  Additionally, the TRE and Preacher fires have been closed to firewood cutting and OHV use is restricted to existing roads and trails.

For more information please call the Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District Office at 775-885-6000.
